Epicor describes Kinetic as a global cloud ERP designed for and with manufacturers, with real-time business intelligence and built-in collaboration tools. It is cloud-focused, with flexibility for on-premises and hybrid deployments1.

Best for: Discrete manufacturers among JD Edwards customers that want a manufacturing-first ERP with a choice of cloud, on-premises or hybrid deployment.

Not the right fit for: Distribution-led, asset-heavy or real-estate businesses, where Kinetic’s manufacturing focus adds little.

What Epicor Kinetic does

Kinetic covers forecasting, MRP, advanced planning and scheduling and sourcing; site-to-site visibility across a global enterprise; financial reporting and analytics; configurable CPQ and eCommerce; IoT-enabled MES for plant-floor data collection; and engineering and PLM1. Epicor describes its AI as people-centric insights from a "cognitive ERP".

For JD Edwards customers, Kinetic is a fit where manufacturing is the centre of the business. The product page we read does not describe real estate, joint-venture or lease accounting, which JD Edwards EnterpriseOne covers2.

Published evidence

No case studies with named customers are published.

Epicor publishes an ROI calculator based on a Forrester Consulting study that Epicor commissioned, which combines four manufacturers into a single composite organisation1. That is vendor-commissioned modelling, not a measured result for a named company.

Questions to ask Epicor

  • Which manufacturers have moved from JD Edwards to Kinetic, and can we speak to one?
  • If we run Kinetic on premises, how do updates reach us, and how does that differ from the cloud edition?
  • Which of our non-manufacturing JD Edwards modules would need another system?
  • What does the AI do today, and is any of it an agent that acts on records?

The side-by-side comparison shows Epicor Kinetic against the rest of the field.
